About Us

We didn’t come up with this idea. Blondie, our cat did.

The Backstory

On New Year’s Eve, Blondie came inside limping and in pain. None of our cats can get out of our backyard so this was a huge surprise that she could injure herself. We took her straight to our local vet who diagnosed that she had a torn ligament** This was going to require a major surgery to fix, and then she had complications.

The surgery was successful but it was not the end of the ordeal. Blondie was required to undergo four long weeks of confinement to recover, which seemed like forever to her.

At first, we started looking for specialised cages for her. We were surprised that while large cages are available in pet shops, there were not any mobile ones available which can make life so much easier for recuperating pets.

We were lucky as Charles is a carpenter and could put together a custom designed cage that Blondie couldn’t get out of. Charles had ultimately built Blondie 3 cages around the house.

Blondie had sufficient room to move around in and we nursed her through all the little issues along the way–Eating and not eating, trying to use the litter tray, chewing on her bandage, hating her Elizabethan collar, Boredom, difficulty grooming, other cats being jealous, wanting to play or jump and couldn’t. It was a long 4 weeks for her. The first few nights we took turns to sleep on the couch next to her bed when she woke up in the middle of the night in a panic. We adapted and worked through it all.

Watching Blondie over time, we were very aware that recovery had a lot to do with mental stimulation, it was not all about the physical aspects.

We introduced new toys, gave massages, helped her groom herself. Every day was better especially when she was allowed out for exercise time. We would remove the collar at meal times or when she was under strict supervision as she did like chewing on her bandages.

By the end of the rehabilitation process, we were certainly experts in the care–I say experts as in care for our cat. No one knows your pet like you do.

We showed a few friends what Charles had built for Blondie and then we had requests coming in.

So we went from an idea to Kitty Kat RnR and here we are.

“By the end of the rehabilitation process, we were certainly experts in the care–I say experts as in care for our cat. No one knows your pet like you do.

Charles, Esther and Our Fur Babies

I was a veterinary nurse for many years after leaving school and Charles came from a farm. Both with an extensive love of animals this shows in the passion we have for the business and for our pets.

8 years ago, a stray cat turned up in our backyard. Kismet brought her baggage with her and 3 weeks later gave birth to Bear, Mouse and Blondie. Unfortunately, when they were 12 weeks old, Kismet was hit by a car. We decided then and there she brought them to us for a reason. Both parents were feral cats which show in the size of them especially Bear who weighs over 10kgs.

** Technical Aspects:
Blondie had Plantar tarsal ligament disruption (torn ligament) with proximal inter-tarsal subluxation (dislocation of foot/ankle joint). The surgery performed was a proximal inter-tarsal arthrodesis (partial fusing of the ankle joint).
